Alastair has been practising yoga since 2000, initially finding that attending a regular yoga asana (posture) class proved a great antidote to the stresses and strains of employment at a senior level in the Jersey finance industry.
Always curious to learn more, Alastair has tried many different styles of yoga during the past fifteen years, including Iyengar, Ashtanga and Bikram. More recently, he has been increasingly drawn to the uniqueness of each human body and the skeletal variations we all have, and how this can impact on our respective yoga asana practices. This led him to Paul Grilley and Sarah Powers, two world renowned yoga teachers based in the United States with a speciality in Yin Yoga, a slow, gentle but deep practice, which complements the more established yang practices favoured in the western world.
Alastair believes passionately that yoga should be inclusive and practised by everyone, not just those blessed naturally with a wide range of motion in their limbs, and is keen to encourage students to learn more about their own skeletal structures through his guided practice.
"My philosophy is to motivate and teach clients to lead a healthier and more active lifestyle."

BWY Certification, Dynamic Yoga Certification, TFH Kinesiology and Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology. Massage therapist, traditional Thai Yoga massage and Cranio Sacral Therapy Level 1, Pre and Post Natal yoga.
Dynamic yoga uses soft rhythmic movements
synchronised with the breath to fully harness the mobility of the
body to awaken and energise it and teaches you to release tension
to "soften" completely in any yoga posture while still maintaining
the necessary muscular effort to maintain flow, good posture and
good alignment. Muscles are toned, joints are mobilized, heat is
generated and the cardiovascular system is challenged.
This method of yoga practice can be applied to any of the more challenging yoga poses. Beginners and experienced students can practice dynamic yoga side by side. The core techniques of dynamic yoga can be applied to all popular styles of yoga.

"Yoga is for everyone "
My accredition is with the British Wheel of Yoga at Diploma Level & Yoga Campus London. My training includes specialist yoga as therapy training with both Doug Kellar & Tias Little, world renowned experts in their field. In 2011, I also qualified as a Y.S.C Practitioner having trained at The Special Yoga Centre also a centre of excellence in the field. In addition to my general classes I provide yoga as therapy for adults & children with special needs and passionately believe that yoga is for everybody.
My class is a fusion of various yoga traditions that create a unique practice.
Every class will be different responding to the needs of the students and working with different themes. My aim is to help each student to develop their own practice.
Yoga helps us to keep up with daily life by maintaining a balance of strength, flexibility and relaxation. A balance of effort and ease which will rejuvenate the body and free the mind from tension and fatigue.
A common misconception in yoga is that you need to be flexible to try yoga. Wrong ! The reality is that most people aren't flexible but regular practice of yoga can result in a new-found flexibility. This is combined with strength, agility, co-ordination and enhanced cardiovascular health, as well as a sense of physical confidence and well-being.
By practicing yoga on a regular basis you may be surprised to find that you're building much more than a strong & flexible body. Yoga provides health and physical benefits from lowering blood pressure to dealing with depression and increasing energy levels.
'Just as your car runs more smoothly and requires less energy to go faster and farther, when the wheels are in perfect alignment, you perform better when your thoughts, feelings, emotions, goals and values are in balance'.

A 60/90 minute long session integrating Hatha Yoga and Pilates mainly to bring greater awareness and develop the body in a balanced way. Accompanied by soothing music the class travels through a series of floor exercises (the main emphasis on spinal & pelvic alignment, breathing, developing a strong core or centre and improving coordination & balance).
Incorporating both mat work exercises from Pilates and Yoga to warm up the body and prepare the student for more challenging standing work later in the class. Exercises are modified in range of ability from beginners to advanced exercises. Intensity also increases over time as the body adapts. Classes end in a traditional way with relaxation and meditation.
