Earlier this year, we shared Luc Forster’s inspiring story as he prepared to run the Manchester Marathon in support of the British Heart Foundation.
Luc completed his first marathon challenge, and we caught up with him to hear how it went:
“It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done.”
Despite nerves on the day, Luc stayed focused and determined. Taking on his first-ever marathon on what turned out to be the hottest day of the year in the UK added an extra layer of difficulty, but he pushed through with resilience and belief in himself.
“The atmosphere was electric. It was fantastic to hear people cheering my name and giving me high-fives – it gave me a real boost to keep going.”
“Among the many memorable moments? Spotting a Mr Bean impersonator complete with Teddy, taking part in the race!"

How did Luc find the mental and physical Challenge?
“At 20km I really started to feel it. By 35km, I knew I was going to do it. My training helped get me there – I listened to my body and kept going.”
Luc completed his first ever marathon in an impressive 4 hours and 4 minutes! Running with a Jersey flag, he found strength in the crowd, his preparation, and the support around him, including his mum and dad.
“The day humbled me. I respect anyone who does a marathon – hats off to them all.”
“It was fantastic to raise money for the British Heart Foundation because they supported my dad through his heart surgery. I’m especially thankful to Oxford Hospital for the care they provided."

The next Challenge?
Luc has his sights set on the London Marathon!
“Next year, I’d like to run the London Marathon for Mind, to help raise funds for anyone affected by mental health.”
He also shared some reflections on recovery and what he’d do differently next time.
“I wasn’t expecting the pain I had on the day. I’ll definitely focus more on stretching and recovery in the lead up!”
Luc’s proud moment crossing the finish line marked not just the end of the marathon — but the beginning of what he hopes will be more challenges to come.
From all of us at Active, a huge well-done Luc! What an incredible achievement for a brilliant cause!
