The wonderful health and wellbeing benefits of spinning

Have you ever been to a spinning class? Spin Classes are never monotonous; with high-energy dance music and motivating instructors, they can provide many health benefits, including strengthening your heart! 

At Active we offer our members at least one 45-minute Spinning class per day for free as part of our membership.

 

But what are the benefits of going to a Spinning class, and how can it help you?

Spinning, also known as indoor cycling, can be a fun first class to take part in if you have just joined a gym, as taking part in a class can be a good way to meet new people and create a sense of camaraderie.

It is also brilliant to try if you are new to fitness, as you can cycle at a low intensity at the start of your Spinning journey. You set your pace and decide how far you want to push your own limits; it is your workout!

Spinning will help to strengthen your legs, including your quads, glutes, hamstrings, and calves without overstressing your joints. It also works all your muscles including your core, as you keep your body in an upright position while balancing on the bike, your core is engaged. Your core strength will increase with each class you take. Having a strong core can help protect you from lower back injuries.

Spinning is a terrific low-impact cardiovascular workout, which improves the ability of the heart, blood cells, and lungs to provide oxygenated blood to muscles, which allows them to produce energy to enable movement. The better your cardiovascular fitness, the easier it will be for you to stay active and it can even lessen your chances of getting Coronary Heart Disease and other cardiovascular problems.

Additional benefits of regularly spinning include reduced cancer risk, reduced anxiety, lowered risk of dementia, and improved stamina and moods. Spinning creates an adrenaline rush and endorphin release that has been proven to lower stress levels.

Of course, you will also benefit from burning calories while Spinning. In fact, an average spin class burns between 400 and 600 calories.
