The Splashpad in Coronation Park is a free community facility, and continues to be one of the island's most popular attractions for children and families this summer.
Open daily from 10am to 6pm between 1st May and 30th September, the Splashpad provides a fun, free and accessible space where children can cool off, play and enjoy the outdoors.
Behind the scenes, a dedicated team works hard every day to ensure the facility remains clean, safe and operational for the those who use it each season.
More Than Just a Water Play Area
While visitors may only see the fountains and water features, operating a Splashpad involves ongoing maintenance, monitoring and cleaning throughout the day.
To ensure the water remains safe and the equipment functions correctly, our wonderful team regularly carry out inspections, maintenance checks and cleaning procedures.
Daily tasks include checking water quality, monitoring pumps and filtration systems, inspecting play features, removing debris from the water and surrounding area, and ensuring all equipment is operating safely and effectively.
Visitors may occasionally find the water features temporarily switched off during the day.
These short interruptions are necessary to allow essential maintenance and cleaning to take place and typically last no longer than 15 minutes. While this can be disappointing during a visit, this work is vital in helping keep the Splashpad open and operating safely for everyone.
Why is the Splashpad occasionally closed for backwashing and filter cleaning?
We carry this out whenever it is needed to maintain water quality and keep the facility safe. There is no fixed daily time for this process, as it depends on a number of factors including visitor numbers, weather conditions, the amount of debris on the Splashpad, and anything that may enter the water system throughout the day.
Everything from grass and leaves to food waste, balloons and even excess sun cream can affect how quickly the filtration system needs attention.
Reminder: The water features are activated by sensors located on the pad.
If the fountains appear inactive, visitors may simply need to step or jump on one of the three activation sensors, marked with the familiar "Jump on Me" signage, to start the water features.
Why the Rules Matter
The rules displayed at the Splashpad are not there to spoil anyone's fun. They have been carefully introduced to protect visitors, maintain water quality and prevent avoidable breakdowns or closures.
We would encourage all visitors to familiarise themselves with the rules displayed on-site and to be mindful of the facility's opening hours of 10am to 6pm, water is switched off at 5:45pm, giving everyone 15 minutes to gather their belongings and leave the Splashpad area before the gates are locked at 6pm.
We kindly ask all visitors to begin packing up as soon as the water features stop so our team can safely close the facility, complete essential cleaning and water quality checks, and prepare the splash pad for another fun day of play. Thank you for helping us keep the splash pad safe, clean and ready for everyone to enjoy.
Following the rules helps ensure everyone can enjoy the Splashpad safely and reduces the risk of unnecessary maintenance and closures.
Simple actions, such as disposing of rubbish responsibly and keeping foreign objects out of the water, can make a significant difference.
Items such as grass, mud, food waste, birthday balloons and water balloons can enter the water circulation system and create problems for both water quality and equipment performance. In some cases, these materials can block filters, trigger maintenance issues and lead to temporary closures while repairs or additional cleaning are carried out.
We know the Splashpad is also popular for birthday celebrations and family gatherings, and visitors are welcome to enjoy refreshments in the park. Food stalls, picnic setups and birthday treats are commonplace. However, we kindly ask that food, packaging, decorations and other items are kept out of the Splashpad itself to help maintain water quality and reduce unnecessary cleaning and maintenance.
A Shared Community Space
The Splashpad is a community facility that is enjoyed by families of all ages. Let’s work together to keep it safe for everyone who uses it.
Visitors can help by:
- Taking all rubbish home or using the bins provided.
- Avoiding the use of water balloons or water bombs.
- Ensuring children wear appropriate swimwear and swim nappies where required.
- Keeping grass, mud and other debris out of the water.
- Not bringing food into the water play area.
- Keeping dogs outside the Splashpad enclosure.
- Supervising children at all times.
These simple steps help maintain water quality, reduce unnecessary maintenance and allow more families to enjoy the facility throughout the season.
